WESLACO – A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Boys & Girls Club of Weslaco.
Weslaco City officials gathered at the site of the new 12,000-plus-sf facility to be located at Mayor Pablo G. Peña City Park.
Assistance to the club and the city was a $400,000 Texas Parks and Wildlife Grant to go toward the construction of the new club.
In total, officials say the project was budgeted for $1.4 million with $1.1 million going toward the facility’s construction.
The club’s executive director, Mary Lopez, confirmed that the non-profit organization would be able to accommodate as much as 400 children.
Officials say that the mayor wants it ready by February 2016, and he is putting a deadline on the architects.
