ROBSTOWN - Construction is set to begin in spring 2013 on the 50-acre Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay near the Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds.

The 290,000-sf shopping complex is slated to be open by spring 2014. An additional 26 acres is being eyed for purchase and expansion.

Phase I of the outlet mall will consist of 72 retail spaces, organizers said, with 34 tenants in final negotiations.

Phase II will consist of additional stores, and plans for a movie theater and hotel, according to Rick Carduner, managing partner of Dolphin Ventures.

Guess, Puma and Brooks Brothers are the first three stores announced to open in the Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay.

The developers — Dolphin Ventures and Lockhard Companies — were granted ten years of exclusivity on hundreds of acres surrounding the site which the county will not allow any other entities to build on which could compete.

The complex's location along the future site of the I-69 corridor makes it primed for thousands of motorists traveling to and from the Valley, South Padre Island or Mexico.
