SAN ANTONIO - Alamo Colleges has opened its Workforce Center of Excellence at 203 Norton St. near Port San Antonio. The renovated 40,000-sf building provides space for the Alamo Colleges to expand the Alamo Academies, which train high school students for skilled jobs.

The center features technology-enhanced classrooms, a conference center, six computer labs each with 24 workstations, videoconferencing capability, interactive whiteboards and touch-screen tablets.

The facility was made possible through an agreement whereby Port San Antonio donated the building and almost 30 acres of land, next to the port's East Kelly Railport to the Alamo Colleges, as reported in December 2011.

In return, Alamo Colleges will provide specialized training over several years to present and future aerospace industry workers at Port San Antonio.
