DALLAS – The new U.S. patent office will locate in the 45,000-sf Terminal Annex building at 207 Houston St.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in downtown Dallas in the historic downtown building is located next to Union Station.

“The building is an important visual anchor on the southern edge of Dealey Plaza,” patent office representative Susan M. Hoffman said in a statement. ” We are beginning the design phase for the space and hope to take occupancy by late 2013."

The building will be leased at a rate well below market price, and the USPTO will partner with GSA to construct its space in the building as quickly as possible.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is exceedingly rich in engineering talent, patent applicants, and patent grants, and boasts an above average population of potential Veteran employees.

The office will operate as a place for small businesses and entrepreneurs to navigate the patent process, meet with examiners, and access USPTO’s comprehensive search databases.
