MANSFIELD - Don Lee Farms, a family food company based in California, announced the acquisition of a 140,000-sf food production and distribution facility — former home to Simeus Foods International.

Mansfield City Council approved the city's Economic Development Corp.'s plan to provide $1.8 million in incentives.

Most of that money would be spent on renovating the building and facilities, including $800,000 going toward roof repairs, to get the building in shape for certification by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, said Scott Welmaker, the city's economic development director.

The company would have to make capital investments of at least $500,000 a year for ten years and create 250 jobs. It would have to employ at least 25 workers by the end of 2013

The building is located 812 S. Fifth Ave., southwest of downtown.

Consumer products and end items are sold at Costco Wholesale, Whole Foods Markets, Sam's Club and Walmart under the Don Lee Farms label.
