MIDLAND – Midland ISD (MISD) plans to build three new 800-student elementary schools. Each school will be 92,500 sf and will be paid for by a $163 million bond.

MISD anticipates the design period for the three new elementary schools will begin in January and take eight months, with construction scheduled to begin in October. Construction of all three schools is scheduled for completion in December 2014.

Midland ISD’s newest elementary school will be built west of the Scharbauer Sports Complex in the Betenbough Homes Legends Park subdivision. The district has purchased 11.538 acres for $567,398 that will be combined with an additional 4.309 acres that was gifted to the district.

MISD continues to negotiate a contract for the purchase of land for a third elementary school. The district already owns the property in south Midland where Bunche Elementary will be replaced.
