EL PASO - The nation's two largest pharmacy chains are set to go head to head in Downtown next year, when CVS opens its first El Paso store at 201 Mesa St. at Texas Ave. — directly across from an existing Walgreens store.
CVS purchase the two-story, 30,000-sf Buckler Building from River Oaks Properties in August 2012.
City building permit records show a renovation cost of $800,000 for the 11,000-sf store. Records also show Walgreens plans to build a new $979,000 store just a few blocks away at South Mesa St. and Paisano Dr.
CVS' plans to open the new store in February represent the first Downtown opening by a major national retailer in years.
