TEXAS - Texas' projected population hit a milestone this month by reaching the 26.39 million mark on January 5, according to a Business Journal’s On Numbers analysis.
A milestone is defined as any population that ends with at least four zeros. As of January 1, On Numbers estimates the state was 5,724 people away from its upcoming milestone.
A computer program developed by On Numbers analyzes more than a decade's worth of demographic data to estimate the populations of states, metropolitan areas, counties and cities at any given moment.
The U.S. Census Bureau won’t release 2013 population figures for more than a year.
