WACO - State Comptroller Susan Combs sent the city of Waco a sales tax rebate that was 5 percent larger than the check it received in January of last year. The $2.29 million payment reflects November sales reported in December.

All cities in McLennan County that collect sales taxes received a combined $3.16 million this week, a 7.06 percent jump from January last year.

So far this fiscal year, which began October 1, 2012, the city has received rebates totaling $600,000 more than during the first four months of the previous fiscal year.

Sales tax payments to the state from all sources totaled $2.17 billion in December, up from 9.4 percent in December 2011. The rebate of $349 million sent to cities such as Waco represents a 7 percent increase from last January.
