HOUSTON - Builders are expected to have another good year, starting as many as 27,500 homes in 2013, according to the Greater Houston Builders Association. Homeowners are expected to see a 5 percent increase in their property values this year, as housing inventory has fallen.

The home building market has been recovering since 2011 when housing starts dropped to 18,355. The market’s peak was in 2006 when builders started nearly 50,000 houses.

The Houston market is at the top of nearly “every important ranking” for housing, said Mike Inselmann, former president of Metrostudy.

On January 4, Metrostudy reported it had been acquired by Hanley Wood. Metrostudy will be absorbed into the Washington, D.C.-based firm’s Market Intelligence business unit, which will operate under the Metrostudy name.
