HARLINGEN and AUSTIN – Austin Energy has finalized an agreement to buy energy for the next 25 years from the Los Vientos and Whitetail coastal wind farms. The deal will boost Austin Energy’s total wind portfolio to 851 megawatts and the total renewable energy up to 27 percent of all electricity.

Austin Energy’s deal with the Los Vientos project is the utility’s largest wind contract to date, providing 201.6 MW. The farm, near Harlingen, has 84 turbines.

Whitetail is 30 miles southeast of Laredo and has 57 turbines.
