ABILENE - Home sales in the city were up in December 2012 compared with December 2011 but the average sales price went down, according to the Abilene Association of Realtors.

Abilene real estate agents sold 126 homes in December 2012, 13 more than the same month last year. Total sales last month were $16,302,294, compared with $15,332,439 in December 2011.

The average price was $129,383, compared to $135,597 in December 2011. The median price also dropped. It was $113,250 in December 2012, compared to $122,500 in December 2011.

"Our market here in Abilene is very stable: It doesn't move too much up or down," said Steve Stovall of Stovall Realtors. "We don't have a lot of booms or busts."

Fifteen of the homes sold in December were priced from $200,000-$250,000. Thirteen homes were in the $100,000-$120,000 range and 13 in the $121,000-$140,000 range.

Forty-four homes sold within 30 days of being listed. Of the 126 homes, 36 buyers paid in cash, 40 used conventional loans, 22 for FHA, 24 for VA, three were owner-financed and one had "other financing."
