SAN ANTONIO - The $95 million Center for Oral Health Care and Research at the Dental School at the University of Texas Health Science Center is underway. The four-story, 198,000-sf facility is located at 8300 Floyd Curl.

Technology will play a lead role in the new facility. Modern tools and flat-screen monitors will allow dentists and dentists-in-training to provide a virtual one-stop-shop right at the patient’s chair. The machines will also eliminate human error.

Currently, the dental school has about 100,000 patient visits a year, which translates into an average of 15,000 to 20,000 individual patients, mostly from Bexar County and South Texas.

Specialty clinics will be located on the first two floors. The pre-doctoral clinic, with more than 200 operatories, will be on the top two floors.

Slated for completion in December 2014, the new building is the first for the Dental School since the current facility opened in 1972. The Dental School historically has been ranked highly in U.S. dental school comparisons.
