LUBBOCK – Lubbock ranked 20th on the list of Top 25 large metros in the Milken Institute’s 2012 report Best-Performing Cities: Where America’s Jobs Are Created and Sustained. The Hub City gained five spots since last year.

Lubbock’s employment base grew 3.7 percent — the ninth fastest in the nation.

The index reports Lubbock is one of the United States’ top cotton producers. The local economy also was driven by its largest employer, Texas Tech.

With companies like CEV Multimedia and Tyler Technologies, Lubbock has a growing mix of not only energy-related businesses, but also technology-based businesses, according to John Osborne, CEO of Lubbock Economic Development Alliance.
