TEXAS - Several Texas cities are listed near the top of a Milken Institute ranking of the nation’s best-performing small cities. Of the top ten best performing small cities, four were in Texas. Odessa ranked No. 4; Longview No. 6; Midland No. 8; and Tyler No. 9. The “small city” listing includes the nation’s 179 smallest Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs).

The nation’s 200 largest MSA’s were ranked separately, with the San Jose area in California rated No. 1 on that list.

In Texas, Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos ranked No. 2 on the large city list, while Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown was No. 4; and Fort Worth-Arlington was ranked No. 10.
