AMARILLO – A 55,000-sf United Supermarket and is planned for land on Soncy Rd. north of Ruby Tequila’s Mexican Kitchen at 3616 S. Soncy.

The new store will anchor a 19-acre site that also will contain a 2,400-sf freestanding United Express convenience store and additional shopping structures, a news release said.

The estimated construction value of the new grocery store is about $5.3 million, according to Scott McDonald, a City of Amarillo building official. The Lubbock grocery company anticipates completion in October.

The flagship store will feature a large produce department near the entrance, a drive-thru pharmacy and an adjacent walk-in clinic. The dining area will seat 185 people.

The store will employ about 300 people, according to Eddie Owens, a company spokesman.

The Lubbock-based grocery company also announced plans to remodel its Market St. store at 2530 S. Georgia St., with that effort beginning in early summer.
