COLLEGE STATION - Strategic Behavioral Health has started construction on a new $12 million mental health hospital next to the College Station Medical Center.

The 52,000-sf hospital will have 72 beds, a staff of about 250 and will be equipped to treat various psychiatric ailments from depression to schizophrenia in children, adults and seniors. Salaries will average about $18 per hour.

The facility is expected to be complete in a year and, when complete, will meet the needs of more than 300,000 people who currently lack access to mental health care. It will also establish a residency program with the Texas A&M Health Science Center.
