ABILENE - Sales tax receipts for February 2013, which reflect December sales, are 13.88 percent below February 2012 numbers, and 1.68 percent below the projected fiscal year 2013 budget, according to information released by the city and the state Comptroller’s Office.

The city’s February rebate is $4,050,740. State figures indicate Abilene had $4,686,055 the same month last year. The breakdown of the February rebate is $3,038,055.04 to the general fund and $1,012,685.01 for economic development.

From October 2011 to this month, sales tax receipts are 9.26 percent below last year and 1.89 above the projected fiscal year budget.

January 2013 receipts, which reflected November sales, were 22.57 percent below January 2012 and 2.23 percent below the projected fiscal year budget.

Statewide, the latest tax collection totaled $2.12 billion, up 6.1 percent compared with the same period a year prior. The state’s sales tax revenue has increased for 34 consecutive months.
