AUSTIN - Work has started on the Kenzie, a six-story apartment building at the Domain — one of several projects under construction at the rapidly expanding North Austin mixed-use development. The project has a construction cost of $27 million, according to state filings.

Expected to open this fall, the Kenzie, at 3201 Esperanza Crossing, will feature 279 units ranging in size from 500 to 1,600 sf, as well as many perks comparable to those offered at boutique hotels, according to Dallas-based developer StreetLights Residential.

A fitness center is included among the 17,000 sf of planned amenities, as well as a pair of courtyards featuring an infinity-edge swimming pool, an open-air kitchen and outdoor TVs, among other things.

Elsewhere at the Domain, work continues on a new Whole Foods Market set to debut this year. The Austin-based grocer is replacing an existing location in the nearby Gateway Shopping Center at Research Blvd. and Loop 360.
