McALLEN - Consumers purchased nearly $382 million worth of taxable goods and services from McAllen businesses during December, about 3.9 percent more than December 2011, according to data released by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

Both Pharr and Mission businesses reported lower December sales tax collections to the Comptroller, and Edinburg’s data showed flat sales. Hidalgo County’s big winner was Mercedes, home to the Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets, which notched a 12 percent increase.
