Wichita Falls: Sheppard AFB flies high in $734M impact
WICHITA FALLS – Sheppard Air Force Base (AFB) has issued its latest 2014 Economic Impact Statement for Wichita Falls and the surrounding area. The impact totaled $734,268,578.
Total personnel of 12,581 at the base combines 1,837 in active duty with their 4,035 dependents, 3,382 trainees, and 3,255 civilians.
The base has created 2,382 indirect jobs estimated at $83,655,840, with an average annual pay of $35,120.
Total annual payroll of $395,403,313 includes:
- Military pay: $310,566,301
- Civilian pay: $84,837,012
The 82nd Training Wing is the largest technical training unit in the Air Force, delivering nearly 80,000 trained airmen, soldiers, sailors, marines and international students each year.
The 80th Flying Training Wing, operating from the Air Force’s second-busiest airfield, provides trained combat pilots for the NATO Alliance through the unique Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program.
