EL PASO - El Paso County's hotel occupancy rate averaged 65.5 percent in 2012 compared with 67.6 percent in 2011, and hotel revenues grew 1.8 percent, to an estimated $163.5 million, according to STR.

El Paso hotel revenues were $155.6 million last year, up 1.2 percent from 2011, according to the Texas comptroller.

Texas' occupancy rate averaged 61.6 percent last year, and revenues increased 10.3 percent from 2011. Nationwide, hotel occupancy almost mirrored the Texas average at 61.4 percent, and revenues increased 7.3 percent.

El Paso County has 95 hotels with more than 9,000 rooms.

The 292-room El Paso Marriott Hotel remained the top revenue generator, however, its revenues declined 4.2 percent in 2012 to $9.1 million.

The second-highest revenue generator in El Paso's hotel industry was the IHG Army Hotels at Fort Bliss with $6.9 million in revenues in 2012.

El Paso's hotel occupancy rate was 60.6 percent in January 2013, much better than the 55.2 percent in January 2012. Hotel revenues were up almost 11 percent in January 2013 compared with revenues a year ago.
