HEREFORD, DEAF SMITH COUNTY – United Supermarkets plans to open a 36,000-sf Amigos store and a 2,400-sf convenience store on a 5.2-acre site at 520 N. 25-Mile Ave. in 2014.

United Supermarkets will build its Hispanic-branded store with the help of a $200,000 incentive package from the Hereford Economic Development Corp. The store will create at least 125 new jobs for the community, according to Eddie Owens with the company.

The Amigos will be United’s fourth under that brand, but the first one built from the ground up. United has converted existing United Supermarkets in Amarillo, Plainview and Lubbock into Amigos stores.

The store will include a full-service meat counter that will feature marinated and fresh-cut meats, a full-service bakery with freshly made tortillas and pastries and “La Cocina,” a kitchen offering house-made Mexican dishes.
