ALVIN, BRAZORIA COUNTY - Ascend Performance Materials LLC plans to build a new $1.2 billion chemical facility and create 100 jobs.

The company will construct a propane dehydrogenation facility.

As an incentive to build the facility in Texas, the state’s Texas Enterprise Fund provided $1 million to the company.

Ascend is one of many chemical companies expanding in the Gulf Coast area to take advantage of cheap natural gas and natural gas liquids produced in U.S. shale plays.
