WACO - Several high-profile chains want to make it more convenient for Waco travelers to stop, shop and fill up their gas tanks.

The Corpus Christi-based chain called Stripes had bought five prime locations on which to build their 6,844-sf stores and is negotiating to acquire three others in the Greater Waco area.

The sites Stripes has acquired include the Town & Country Gardens location at 603 S. Valley Mills Dr.; South 26th St. and Franklin Ave.; New Rd. and Bagby Ave.; Sun Valley Blvd. and Bagby Ave.; and US 77 and Primrose Dr.

Meanwhile, 7-Eleven just finished leveling the former Arby’s building on University Parks Dr., near I-35.

San Antonio-based Valero is placing a larger 4,600-sf prototype at North 19th St. and Lake Shore Dr. It will have fuel islands to accommodate 16 vehicles at the same time, a carwash and an ATM machine.
