PORT ARANSAS – The City of Port Aransas has seen increased construction with many building permits being taken out for second homes. The construction is not only bringing more people to town, but will increase the amount of property tax brought in.

In December 2005, 84 permits were issued with a total value of $795,000, but none of those permits were for new homes.

In January 2012, 189 permits were issued with a value of $2.8 million, ten of those were brand new homes.

In January 2013, the city saw 252 permits go out with a value of $5.5 million, 13 of which are for new homes.
