WACO – An aging apartment complex and a handful of old houses on Speight Ave. near the Baylor University campus were demolished to make way for 257 apartment units with bedrooms for 718 occupants.

The complex, called the View, is a multimillion-dollar student housing community that will include a seven-story parking garage. The View will be built on about four acres bounded by South 10th St. and South 11th St., Speight Ave. and an alley at the rear of the property.

Other features of the complex include a swimming pool, a clubhouse, an outdoor barbecue area and Internet cafe. The complex is scheduled to open in fall 2014.

Dallas-based Copeland Commercial LLC and New Jersey-based University Student Living LLC are the developers.
