Power plant energizes Westbrook
WESTBROOK, MITCHELL COUNTY – FGE Texas LLC, a Houston-based power generation firm, announced that it plans to build a new 726MW clean burning, natural gas fired generating station near the community of Westbrook.
FGE Power expects to create over 400 construction jobs and when completed, the proposed power plant would create an estimated 20 operating jobs.
The current project schedule calls for construction to begin in 2013 and for the new combined cycle power plant to begin commercial operation in 2016.
In addition to the regional labor and natural gas industry benefits, the project is expected to provide over $100,000,000 of direct tax benefits to the County and its affiliates during its useful life.
The facility will be located on land supplied by Mitchell County, benefit from on-site high voltage power lines, and will have plentiful access to natural gas from the area’s rapidly developing Cline Shale formation.
The 726 MW 2×1 combined-cycle facility will deploy Alstom Thermal Power’s next generation KA-24 platform which will be one of the most efficient among gas plants in ERCOT, have class leading environmental performance for a facility of its type, and possess a unique dispatch flexibility to respond to ERCOT’s large wind resource and peak load demands.
