Nationwide closing Amarillo doors

AMARILLO – Nationwide Insurance will close its Amarillo call center located at 4320 S. Western St., as planned in July, laying off its remaining employees there in mid-May.

The company will lay off 83 employees who still work at the Amarillo center, a workforce reduced from the staff of 325 it had last April.

Nationwide notified the Texas Workforce Commission in a March 13 letter that it would cease operations at the center on May 16.

Nationwide relocated 22 of its Amarillo employees and another 59 will start working from home for the company next month. Nationwide has call centers at Lynchburg, Va.; San Antonio; Des Moines, Iowa; and Columbus, Ohio.
