EL PASO - The County Commissioners Court approved spending $637,000 to purchase some land needed to build a primary-care clinic in the central area of the city.

The Central El Paso clinic is part of the University Medical Center's (UMC) $152 million plan to renovate the hospital and build primary-care clinics throughout El Paso.

The county is going to buy a 1.45-acre lot located at 310 N. Concepcion. The lot is the last of three properties to be acquired to make room for the future clinic. The other properties are located at 400 Raynolds and 300 N. Concepcion.

The clinic, which will cost $32 million, is scheduled to be completed by January 2018.

Officials say groundbreaking for the clinic should take place later this year.

The clinic will include internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, basic radiology, a pharmacy and rehab services. It also will offer outpatient services currently being provided by University Medical Center of El Paso.
