HOUSTON – Contracts in the Houston metropolitan area for future residential construction fell 5.1 percent in January 2013 compared to January 2012, while nonresidential contracts grew 33.1 percent and total construction increased 17.0 percent, according to McGraw Hill Construction.
Residential contracts totaled $441 million in January 2013, down 5.1 percent from $465 million from January 2012.
Nonresidential contracts totaled $229 million for the same period, down 33.1 percent from $342 million from January 2012.
Residential includes single-family homes, duplexes and apartments.
