EL PASO – Construction is underway on Cinemark’s 14-screen theater at Rich Beem and Montana, with a projected opening date set for October 2013.

Meanwhile, land has been cleared and leveled, but construction is on hold for a proposed 13-screen Carmike theater on 19.6 acres near Joe Battle and Montana — across the street from a Walmart Supercenter. Delays in getting water and sewer lines to the property have the project at a standstill.

Both movie chains announced plans in September 2012 for East Side theaters at sites about a mile apart on Montana.

Cinemark also plans to put a six-screen Cinemark Movie Bistro at Sunland Park Mall on the West Side. The Bistro, Cinemark’s cinema-eatery concept, is going into where AMC Entertainment closed a six-screen theater in 2004. The theater is expected to open late summer 2013.
