LONGVIEW - Longview area home sales are off to a hot start in 2013, and real estate professionals are predicting they will continue picking up steam as spring and summer get into full swing.
The number of single-family homes sold in January 2013 was up 46 percent from last January, according to Longview Area Association of Realtors’ Multiple Listing Service. January and February sales combined were up about 16 percent.
As demand picks up, median prices also are rising. The median price of the 124 homes sold in February 2013 was $141,450, up from $126,750 a year ago.
Longview’s unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in January 2013, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. Statewide, the rate was 6.3 percent; nationally it was 7.9 percent.
