SAN ANTONIO - Area general contractors added 1,100 employees to their payrolls between January 2012 and January 2013, according to Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

AGC reports that the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan region had 39,900 construction employees last January. A year later, that number had risen 3 percent to 41,000 workers.

Other metropolitan markets in Texas reported significant job gains as well.
