COLLEGE STATION – Construction has started on a new $45 million development at the site where the 17-story Plaza Hotel was imploded in 2012 at the corner of University Dr. and Texas Ave.

The Northpoint Crossing project will include 307 apartment units and 920 beds, and two parking garages. It will feature a mix of uses including apartments, restaurants and retail.

The first floor will contain 50,000 sf of restaurants and retail.

The first phase should open by summer 2014. Phase two of the project will include an additional 300 apartments and should open in 2015.
