BAYTOWN - Borusan Mannesmann, a Turkish steel pipe manufacturer, is investing $148 million to build its first U.S. facility in Baytown.

The facility is anticipated to create 250 jobs and is being supported by a $1.6 million grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF).

To date, the TEF has invested nearly $490 million and closed the deal on projects generating more than 67,000 new jobs and more than $19.9 billion in capital investment in the state.

The Baytown facility will produce casings used to secure oil wells and tubing to extract gas and oil from the ground, adding 300,000 tons of manufacturing capacity per year.

Borusan isn’t the only foreign steel pipe company investing in Houston. Luxembourg’s Tenaris SA is investing up to $1.5 billion to build a new steel pipe manufacturing facility in Bay City.
