HOUSTON - Work can begin on Houston’s second convention center hotel, which will be next to the George R. Brown Convention Center.

The development agreement between Houston First Corp. and Rida Development Corp. has been finalized for the $335 million, 1,000-room Marriott Marquis.

Geotechincal work on the project is expected to begin within the next two weeks, and construction should begin in 2014. Completion is targeted for spring 2016.

Houston will be the sixth city in the U.S. with a Marriott Marquis.

The project will create more than 1,800 construction jobs and add 800 permanent jobs. A new parking garage will add 1,800 parking spots for hotel guests and George R. Brown visitors.
