WACO – The sales-tax bandwagon Waco has been riding for months hit a small bump in April. Waco received a sales tax rebate of $2.32 million from State Comptroller Susan Combs, slightly less than the $2.39 million it received in April last year.

Despite the setback, Waco shows evidence of an economic turnaround locally that includes improving employment figures that typically translate into increased spending and larger rebates.

Rebates for the past 12 months are a combined $1.5 million larger than those of the previous 12 months. Rebates received by cities and other taxing entities in April reflect sales in February and reported to the comptroller’s office in March.
