AMARILLO - The unemployment rate in Amarillo dropped to 4.6 percent in February from 4.9 in January, according to figures released by the U.S. Labor Department. Amarillo's unemployment was 5 percent in February 2012.

Amarillo has the third-lowest unemployment rate among Texas' 25 largest metropolitan areas. Lubbock's unemployment rate was 5.1 percent. The lowest rates were in Midland at 3.2 percent and Odessa at 3.8 percent.

February's unemployment rates were down across the board in Texas, with the steepest drop coming in Beaumont-Port Arthur, which went from 10.9 in January to 9.9 in February.
