LONGVIEW – Construction has begun on the 60,000-sf Fenton Honda and when it opens late in 2013, it could be the largest Honda dealership in East Texas and one of the largest in the auto dealer’s 15 stores in two states.

Tyler-based Fenton Motor Group, which purchased the former Brew Honda in 2012, is moving the dealership from its 15,000-sf location on South St. to 9.5 acres at the intersection of Eastman Rd. and Loop 281.

The decision to place the new dealership at Eastman Rd. and Loop 281 came out of a study of traffic counts and a feeling the city is moving in that direction.

The company hopes to be operating out of the new facility by Christmas, according to Harry Fisher with the auto dealer. The project has an estimated cost of $6.5 million, according to state filings.

Currently, the dealership’s inventory is about 100 cars. That is expected to increase to 250 to 300 new cars in stock at the new location, according to Fisher.

Fenton also is planning a used-car lot to include another 250 vehicles. The location also will include expanded facilities for work on import cars and Fenton Honda’s free-oil-change-for-life incentive.
