Walmart opens doors in Helotes

HELOTES – Walmart Stores Inc. has opened its latest San Antonio-area Supercenter. The 150,000-sf store along Bandera and Leslie roads in Helotes had an estimated value of construction of $10.8 million, according to state filings.

The new Supercenter is the anchor for the Helotes Town Centre. At build out, the shopping center will encompass some 20 acres and bring almost 200,000 sf of retail space to Helotes.

Walmart purchased the land for the Helotes store last April. That deal was key to getting the Helotes Town Centre, a project that had been delayed for roughly two years, back on track.

The Walmart deal in Helotes also represented one piece in a major building campaign in the works by the retailer. Since construction began in Helotes, Walmart has announced several new Supercenters for the greater San Antonio area — plus plans to open its first supermarket concept store here.
