KATY - Memorial Hermann is set to start construction this summer on a $15 million, 100,000-sf medical building at its Katy Hospital, located on 66 acres at 23900 Katy Fwy.

The building will house physician offices, an expansion of the hospital’s Ironman Sports Medicine Institute, and outpatient imaging services.

Construction should be completed by either late 2013 or early 2014.

In other news, Memorial Hermann plans to start construction on a $70 million, six-story patient tower by early 2014. The 155,555-sf tower will bring the hospital’s total bed count from 142 to around 200.

When the patient tower opens in 2016, its first three floors will be fully-operational, and the upper three stories will be shell space. The tower’s design allows up to three additional stories to be constructed on top of the structure, bringing the total height to nine stories.

The campus expansion will add at least 100 new positions to the hospital within the first two years after construction’s completion.
