PLANO – Toyota has announced the consolidation of three separate North American headquarters for manufacturing, sales and marketing, and corporate operations to a state-of-the-art campus to be built in Plano.

The headquarters relocation will bring about 4,000 jobs from California, Kentucky and New York. The automaker has an office site identified near J.C. Penney’s Plano headquarters and is talking to real estate developers about building between 1 million and 1.5 million sf, according to commercial property executives.

Work on the $300 million campus is expected to begin later this year. Toyota will also lease temporary office space in Plano to house workers until the first of its new buildings are ready.

The majority of the employees will not move until construction on Toyota’s new headquarters is completed in late 2016 or early 2017.

The state of Texas is giving a $40 million grant to Toyota through the Texas Enterprise Fund.
