AUSTIN – Free city-wide Wi-Fi launched in Austin in Apr. 2013. Time Warner Cable Inc. made the push to deploy its network more aggressively following the Google Fiber announcement.

Access is free for customers with Standard Internet or above and Business Class subscribers. Hotspots include the Barton Springs and Zilker Park areas with plans to expand the network to Lamar Blvd., Congress Ave., and Fifth and Sixth St.

Google Inc. revealed plans earlier this month to install ultra high-speed Internet access in Austin, and AT&T Inc. announced plans the same day to build an advanced fiber optic network.
