HARLINGEN - Fourteen new construction projects worth more than $10 million are officially underway.

A permit has been issued for a new outpatient clinic for Tropical Texas Behavioral Health at 103 N. Loop 499. The 30,478-sf clinic’s construction cost is $6.2 million.

In the commercial sector, a building permit has been issued for the new Burlington’s Coat Factory at 2721 W. Expy 83. Construction will cost $2.75 million. The 70,000-sf retail store will be built at Harlingen Corners next to Kohl’s. It is expected to open in October.

New home construction is also underway, with building permits showing increased activity in March compared to February. The city issued 12 building permits for new residences worth $1.4 million in March; this contrasts with February when the city issued seven permits worth $895,510.
