TEXAS – Several Texas cities recently made Bloomberg’s Top 12 American Boomtowns list.

Austin topped the list with 11.6 percent growth in population and 3.26 percent GDP compound annual growth. San Antonio edged out Houston at No. 4, and Dallas just made the list at No. 11.

The Houston area ranked No. 5 on the list with 8.15 percent growth in population over five years and 1.55 percent GDP compound annual growth. The Houston area’s population grew from nearly 5.63 million in 2007 to almost 6.09 million in 2011.

For its list, Bloomberg ranked the fastest-growing metropolitan areas using a combined score based on population growth and growth in gross domestic product, adjusted for inflation.
