Texas City water slide set for Memorial Day
TEXAS CITY – A $3 million water park near Nessler Park is close to completion and should be ready for swimmers by Memorial Day weekend.
The Texas City’s new water park replaces the 61-year-old Nessler Pool. The park will feature two 35-foot-tall water slides, a 237-foot-long lazy river, and three covered pavilions. The main building will house restrooms, locker rooms, showers, a concession stand, the water park office and a first aid station.
Once the water park is complete, the natatorium with its Olympic-sized pool at the Lowry Recreation Center will be the only traditional pool operated by the city.
The $3 million tab is covered by the city ’s Economic Development Corp. using sales tax revenues to pay for the construction.
The water park won’t be the only new amenity at Nessler Park. Soon construction will begin on another EDC-funded project — a $300,000 skate park.
