Eagle Ford Shale jobs filled with San Antonio talent

SAN ANTONIO – Regional job fairs are attracting hundreds of local applicants seeking employment in the Eagle Ford Shale.

Companies like Houston-based BHP Billiton Petroleum have been able to fill most of their employment needs with local workers rather than bringing workers in from the outside.

BHP plans to hire 85 more people by midsummer and another 85 in the following 12 months. The company currently has about 250 employees in the field already, and estimates that only about 20 of them were hired from outside the region.

The company has hired people this spring in cities such as Cuero, Victoria, Corpus Christi, Floresville and Kenedy.
