LEAGUE CITY – New building permits for single-family homes have skyrocketed in the first three months of 2013 in League City, Galveston County’s largest city.

There were 103 permits for new housing starts in January 2013, 111 in February and 94 in March. In 2012, there were only 161 new house starts in the first three months of the year combined — 45 in January, 51 in February and 65 in March. That’s a 91 percent increase from 2012 to 2013.

The new homes being built are mainly infill in preapproved developments spread out across the city. For subdivisions, such as Mar Bella, Sedona, Hidden Lakes and Westwood, permits are being issued, and homes are going up, from the east to the west ends of the city.
