EL PASO - Montecillo, a 292-acre, $770 million smart growth development along Mesa Street in West El Paso, recently marked its second phase with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The $35 million Santi Dwellings at Montecillo includes five upscale apartment buildings with 263 units and two 19,000-sf commercial buildings. Costs are estimated at $6.79 million for buildings five, six, and seven, and $5.46 for buildings three and four, according to state filings.

This follows the completion of the successful $25 million, four-building, 289-unit, upscale apartment complex named The Venue at Montecillo.

Next up is a 22-acre entertainment district along Mesa and across the street from the main Montecillo community. It will feature an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. EPT Land is preparing to start work on the 20-acre entertainment district in the Montecillo development.

It will take about ten years to complete Montecillo. It eventually will have 4,500 residences of various types.
